Affordable AC motor contol is a comparatively recent addition to the world of EVs and opens up lots of new possiblities and solutions. Our AC motors are often more efficient than many DC motors and have the benefit of improved torque characteristics, fewer parts and, particularly in the case of our induction motors, a reputation for excellent reliability and longevity. When combined with our control systems all our AC motors also offer the great benefit of variable and adjustable regenerative braking.
The set-up of AC control is a little more complex than most DC applications. It is important that the controller and motor are matched. We can supply controllers both as packages including a suitable line contactor, a cut-off switch, a forward reverse switch, wiring loom materials and a throttle potentiometer or simply as control units on their own. Controllers are supplied with operating systems installed and in some controller packages we include software to adjust them on a suitable PC. Others require an appropriate hand-held programmer to make adjustments which you can buy or hire from us. There are a large number of parameters that can be adjusted to suit your application. If you are using a motor not supplied by us we need full specification details from the motor data plate (and any other data you may have from the motor manufacturer) before we can determine whether we can supply a suitable controller.
