Cut-off switches are used to disconnect power from the batteries. There two types of cut-off switch: direct and remote acting. Direct acting cut-off switches are large mechanical devices which hand full battery current and can safely break peak battery curents. Remote acting cut-off switches are installed in series with the coil feed of a suitable line contactor so that when in the off position the contactor will have no coil feed and hence open and cut-off power from the batteries.
