The separately excited motor, as the name suggests, has separate armature and field windings. The separately excited motor controller is able to control the armature and field winding independently which allows the characteristics of the motor to be tailored very effectively to the requirements of the vehicle. The field is wound so that the current is much lower than in a series wound motor and the voltage much higher. Low currents can be switched easily inside the controller, consequently the separately excited controller does not require any forward-reverse or drive-brake contactors. As the correct wiring is very important, we supply these controllers as a package which includes the controller, line contactor, cut-off switch, forward/reverse switch and throttle potentiometer box for complete installations.
