Lithium Batteries & Cells

We source and supply lithium batteries and cells which utilise the reliable LifePO4 or LiFeYPO4 chemistries. Please see our range of sizes.

These cells offer useful cycle life when correctly used and installed with high power and good energy densities. In our experience cycle life can be in the thousands of cycles providing that depth of discharge, discharge rates, charging and temperature are strictly controlled and the correct size is chosen for the application. The cells are sealed and maintenance-free with cases constructed from strong plastic with grooves designed to allow airflow around the cells.

We supply these cells in a range of sizes from varying stocks. We will advise you of current stock availability or expected delivery lead time for your choice of cell type and quantity on receipt of your order. Individual cells can be connected together easily in strings to form batteries of sizes to suit required voltages and Ah capacities. They offer flexibility and straightforward replacement in the event of a cell losing capacity. For best life and performance they can be installed either upright with their terminals at the top, or for lower profile applications, on their narrow sides.

We do not recommend installing the cells flat side down. The cells should be clamped together with suitable end plates to prevent any expansion which would otherwise cause internal damage. Well tensioned strapping or threaded rods can be used to clamp the end plates against the cells. To operate correctly the cells should be used in conjunction with and be protected by a suitable battery management system.

We offer three systems which all include cell controller circuit boards which should be connected to each cell. Each cell has a nominal voltage of 3.2V and fully charged voltage of circa 3.6V to 3.8V. The lower peak voltage will give greatest life and the higher will give the greater energy capacity.

To determine the number of cells you require for your battery pack just divide the total nominal operating voltage you require by 3.2 Example 1: for a 96V battery pack you will need 96/3.2 = 30 cells Example 2: for a 24V pack you will need 24/3.2 = 7.5 cells. So you have the option to choose to use 7 cells and operate at 22.4V nominal or use 8 cells and operate at 25.6V nominal. Most 24V systems will work fine with either a modest decrease or increase in voltage. The same applies if you calculate for a higher or lower alternative pack voltage.
